Massively parallel computations demand efficient synchronization and communication mechanisms. Neither shared memory nor message passing models fulfil this requirement in a satisfactory way. In this paper, we present an alternative model for parallel and distributed computing in an attempt to meet these demands. Aspects of the implementation of the programming model on a software platform are presented and the correctness and flexibility of the model are demonstrated using three non-trivial applications in the areas of video and image processing and numerical computations.
